HELP! We must be mad! After much deliberation, and having solved some problems we have been experiencing over the past couple of years, the Committee has decided to hold another event in 2008. This will almost certainly be during the second half of August, but definite dates are not yet available as we are still investigating the availability of the numerous performers involved, and also the respective logistics of the venues available to us. We will of course post the dates and venue on the web site as soon as available. The event will follow much the same format as the 2004 concert – a three evening event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be the usual Rock and Pop. Sunday will be a full orchestral classical concert with the usual high quality soloists. We are still discussing what form Friday’s concert should take. An alternative of Country Music instead of Blues and Jazz has been mentioned but no decision made. Anybody wishing to pass any comments on this is welcome to contact me. The main change will be that the concert will not be held in the Harbour, but at a nearby outdoor venue where all the usual facilities will be provided. It will be a ticketed event with tickets sold both in advance and on the night if all tickets are not sold beforehand. Entrance will be by ticket only. We appreciate that the Harbour made a fabulous backdrop for these concerts, and made it a unique event, but logistically and financially it is impossible to do that again. We are sure however that the venue we choose will still provide a great setting and on the plus side will enable the audiences to be much nearer the action. Many people did mention that viewing the stage in the Harbour was far from ideal due to the layout. The concerts will still be in aid of Charity and in 2008 (as with our 2005 Gig on the Green) will be for Cornwall Air Ambulance and local Charities. We are sure that these charities will benefit far more than previously as we will not be relying on voluntary donations, which we have proved do not work. For those new to our activities please see my report and comments on the 2004 event elsewhere on the website. We will post more details as soon as available, and in the meantime welcome any comments you may have. We have also lost a few committee members due to moving away, and business commitments, and need to recruit a few people who have the time and the commitment to help us. If you are interested in being a part of the team please contact me by any of the means below. Alan Elliott |
